Food Taipei gets the headlines, but it’s one show in a crowded calendar — and the wrong one for a toy brand, a skincare line or a pet-treat maker. Taiwan runs specialist trade and consumer shows for almost every consumer category, most of them in Taipei’s Nangang halls or the World Trade Center, several with regional editions in Taichung and Kaohsiung. Picking the right show is the difference between meeting your buyers and meeting everyone else’s. This guide maps Taiwan’s shows by category, explains the trade-versus-consumer distinction that trips foreign exhibitors, and gives the calendar logic for planning. Dates below are typical windows; confirm each edition with the organizer.

Trade show or consumer show? Decide first

Taiwan’s shows split into two kinds, sometimes inside the same event. Trade-oriented shows (organized largely by TAITRA, the trade promotion body) run trade days for buyers, distributors, importers and retailers, with public days added — your goal is leads and channel partners. Consumer shows (organized by event companies and associations) are selling events: booths sell to the public, on-site sales matter, and the crowd is your market test. Both are valuable; they need different booths, staff, stock and follow-up (the decision framework is in our Food Taipei exhibitor guide).

Beauty, health and wellness

  • Beauty and salon trade shows — professional beauty, salon supply and cosmetics shows run in spring and autumn in Taipei; useful for the professional-channel side of skincare and for meeting drugstore and salon distributors (the market is mapped in the beauty market guide).
  • Health, biotech and medical shows — Medical Taiwan runs in June alongside the food shows; supplement and wellness brands find ingredient suppliers and some distribution contacts, but consumer retail buyers are better met at food and drugstore-oriented events.
  • Consumer health and wellness expos — periodic consumer events for supplements and healthy living, selling-oriented.

Mother & baby, pets, gifts and lifestyle

  • Baby and maternity expos — Taiwan runs several large consumer baby fairs a year (spring, summer, autumn editions in Taipei and other cities); heavy on-site sales, group-buy leaders and mom communities in attendance — the launch venue for children’s products (lanes in the mother & baby guide).
  • Pet shows — multiple consumer pet expos a year in Taipei and regional cities; pets attend, sampling converts on the spot (see the pet supplements guide).
  • Gift, stationery and cultural-creative shows — TAITRA’s gift and stationery show in spring at the World Trade Center, plus creative-market events; buyers for gifting formats and lifestyle goods.
  • Home and lifestyle fairs — periodic consumer fairs for homeware and living products.

Where the halls are

Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (halls 1 and 2) hosts the largest trade shows; Taipei World Trade Center hall 1 hosts mid-sized trade and consumer shows near the city center; Taichung International Exhibition Center and Kaohsiung Exhibition Center host regional editions. Nangang is on the metro; sample and booth logistics are straightforward for all of them through show-appointed contractors.

How foreign brands take part

  1. Direct booth via the organizer — international exhibitor registration with TAITRA or the event company, often through a country pavilion for cost and visibility.
  2. Country and association pavilions — national pavilions at Food Taipei and the bakery show are the standard route for Southeast Asian exporters; Malaysian brands can pair pavilion participation with export grants (the playbook is in our MATRADE grant guide).
  3. Through a Taiwan partner’s booth — a distributor or operator exhibits your products alongside its portfolio; cheaper, less control, useful for a first appearance.
  4. Walk first — a scouting visit to the right show costs a flight and answers most of the “should we exhibit” questions.

Calendar logic for planning

Food and beverage brands anchor on June (Food Taipei) with March (bakery) and autumn (coffee, vegetarian, Kaohsiung) as category options; consumer-selling brands add the summer culinary exhibition and the seasonal baby and pet expos. Whatever the show, the preparation clock is the same: compliant samples imported properly (see the samples guide), Traditional Chinese materials, price architecture for buyer conversations, and a follow-up system ready before the doors open. Booking windows close months ahead — TAITRA shows typically open exhibitor registration in the preceding autumn or winter.

FAQ

Which Taiwan show should a Malaysian food brand exhibit at first?

Food Taipei for buyers and distributors; the bakery show or culinary exhibition if your product is tasting-led and consumer sales matter; a regional show if your distributor is strongest there. Many brands walk Food Taipei one year and exhibit the next.

Are consumer shows worth it for a brand without retail listings?

Yes — they’re market tests with revenue: on-site sales, price reactions and LINE sign-ups feed the evidence retail buyers ask for (the validation logic is in the pop-up guide).

Do we need a Taiwan entity to exhibit?

No — foreign exhibitors register directly or through pavilions; sample import and any on-site sales run through a compliant local arrangement.

How far ahead should we plan?

Six to nine months for a booth at a major trade show (registration, pavilion coordination, samples, materials); two to three months for a consumer-show stand if products are already in Taiwan.
